One third through
I had the pleasure of writing Babylon’s first blog post for this academic year and now I have the honor of writing the last one. In a wink of an eye time has flown; finals are right around the corner and we all anxiously await our much deserved holidays.
I think it has been a tough year for many of us, but it was a very much enjoyed one nonetheless. As my first year of university comes to an end, I can easily say it has been much more unexpected than I originally thought it would be. When I first arrived, I had certain expectations of how my classes would be, but I had no idea of how or who the people around me would be. In the past ten months I have met people from all over the world, participated in as many student activities as possible and ran my first race ever during the Batavierenrace. I have also taken every possible chance I have had to travel and explore new cities and to fall more in love with this continent. I even saw snow for the first time and went skiing!
As for the classes I have taken so far, I have learned a lot, although I wasn’t always particulary interested in all topics. I have also come to realize that I really need to work on my time management skills. In the past months I’ve started getting used to (and actually really enjoying) the Dutch habit of writing everything down in agendas.
With exams just a week away, my focus is now mostly on passing my courses and seeing my family and friends as soon as possible. However, it’s sometimes hard to focus when you’re reading and the sun is shining over you, almost calling for you to get out of the library and chill in the grass. But as for everything, you have to look at the bright side of things. In this case, I’m just happy that I can beat the heat waves by taking advantage of the library’s air conditioning.
Overall, this year has been, without a doubt, very enjoyable and spontaneous, but there has also been a lot of hard work put into school. There have been many ups and some downs, and I most certainly cannot wait for what the next will have in store for me. As for now, I wish you all good luck with your exams and hope you have an incredible summer!
